Profile
Reuben Brand is an Australian Freelance Journalist and occasional Independent Film Maker.
With a keen interest in global politics and current affairs, focusing closely on the Middle East, South Asia and the USA, and after writing for some of Sydney’s most loved local papers and online journals he packed his bags and began the next step of his career as a foreign correspondent.
Reuben spent the first part of 2009 working in Pakistan, documenting and writing about the contemporary political landscape, the ongoing war with the Taliban and the impending US presence in the border regions.
His passion for politics took him further into the Middle East to continue working, writing, researching and documenting the stories as they unfolded. To date Reuben has worked on projects in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, and the UAE.
Credentials wise, he has a BA in Fine Art from the National Art School - where he studied photography and majored in Middle Eastern art and Islamic ceramics. He then went on to complete his MA in Media Practice from the University of Sydney - the central themes of his studies were based around political journalism, conflict resolving media and broadcast/online media.
Reuben can now be found walking the streets, talking to locals, writing and enjoying the odd game of backgammon, accompanied with sweet black tea and sheesha - somewhere in the Middle East.
